Kidsreads.com is a fabulous website where you can find books organized in category that interests you. From "books made into movies" to "books for boys" you can quickly access a book list to tailor to your child's needs. "Read, Read More, Read More Often" - In this article, Mary Gallagher emphasizes the importance of reading aloud to our children as often as possible. She also gives some guidelines and points you to other helpful resources.
"The Ongoing Debate in Reading Instruction: Finding a Balance" - This article by Dr. Mark Thogmartin appeared in the November/December 1997 issue of Home Education Magazine. In the article, Dr. Thogmartin explains the research that resulted in the writing of Teach a Child to Read With Children's Books. He also gives a brief overview of the "great debate" that has occurred among those involved in the early reading instruction.
"Optimizing Our Homes for Literacy" - This article was featured in the September/Octovber issue of Home Education Magazine. In it, Dr. Thogmartin examines the phenomenon of early reading children, and he explains the common characteristics evident in the homes where these children were raised.
